Third Sector Strategy Consultation

The Communities and Local Government Department launched its Third Sector Strategy last week, outlining its plans for working with the sector.

The Strategy has not been finalised, but is a discussion paper that sets out DCLG’s proposals for improving engagement with the Third Sector. During presentations at the launch DCLG outlined that 56% of the voluntary and community sector is made up of groups wth an income of under £10,000 a year and 87% have an income of under £100,000 a year.

The Strategy is intended to set a framework for effective and ongoing engagement. It starts with the assumption that DCLG and large parts of the third sector are both working to deliver strong, prosperous, inclusive and cohesive communities. DCLG acknowledge that they can do more, and achieve more, through effective engagement with the sector. The final Strategy will be published in the autumn, following the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR).

Urban Forum has written a policy briefing on the Review which you can access from their website.
