A new model of leadership

Liberating Leadership is a practical approach that will help to recognise and support leadership in groups and collective community activities.

It is about leadership in networks and neighbourhoods, street events and sports clubs, parishes and partnerships, temples and tenants associations, festivals and fetes, music groups and mosques.

The model aims to describe the reality of leadership in a small community group through the combination of four essential elements. The group should use the model as a framework to guide their leadership decisions and development.

NOW AVAILABLE - an introduction to the purpose of Liberating Leadership and a summary of the new model.

Essential Elements of Liberating Leadership

Each of the four elements is described separately, though when the model is used in practice, the elements integrate into a combined approach.

Applying Principles - Eight fundamential principles illustrate what leadership in the community really means- and provides a foundation for groups in their approach to leadership.

Using Roles - Ten leadership roles - linked to the principles - describe through a set of tasks what 'doing' leadership actually involves. The roles help groups understand leadership and review how it really works in their groups, by mapping, assessing and sharing key roles.

Making the Connection - How links with with other groups (both vertical and horizontal) sustain leadership. By looking beyond the immediate and seeing the bigger picture, such links help groups understand and use their web of relationships and alliances to increase their impact.

Strengthening Self and Skills - Learning for Leadership. Groups assess existing skills and experience, planning their self and skills development for leadeship as part of a 'learning journey'.
